California Looks at Fines For Adolescents That Ski Without Ski Helmets

Sacremento law makers are considering a proposal from Senator Leland Yee to fine parents of children who ski without helmets. The fine is part of a bill introduced this year.

The San Mateo Democrat says he drafted the bill after seeing a study that showed kids ski helmets can cut in half the risk of serious head injuries in children 15 and younger.

At a minimum one lawmaker, never the less, is opposed. Republican Tom Harman explained to the Los Angeles Times the bill brings into focus the question of how far government would be wise to go in shielding individuals from themselves.
