The twenties also saw a change in fashion from a feminine look toward a more boyish styles during the mid-20s. The leather alternate vinyl was produced in 1924 and integrated into styles and designs.

A more feminine and somewhat conservative look returned in the 1930s.

Nylon was invented in the mid-1930, making new styles more available.

Skirts got shorter for the duration of World War 2 for the reason that, well, material for clothing was not available: everything, including textiles was rationed.

The design and development of womens’ clothing continued when the war ended. 1946 saw the arrival of the bikini. The hour glass figure also appeared along with the Christian Dior New Look in 1947.

Meanwhile the bikini was invented in 1946. In 1947 the ‘New Look’ from Christian Dior was launched bringing long skirts and narrow waists - the hour glass figure had been born. The post-war 1940s years were a time of fashion invention.

A more female style was in full swing in the 1950s rock and roll years, with more full skirts being all the rage, great for dancing.

The 1960s were a blend of a great deal of designs and styles but Mary Quant’s mini skirt is regarded as a particular icon.
