Definitions and Meanings of the word ‘Jacket’
According to Wikipedia in its page on the subject of jackets - “The term comes from the French jaquette, which means either a man’s morning coat or the jacket of a lady’s suit.” I looked that up because recently I was thinking about the whole subject of jackets (seriously … ), what they really are and where the word comes from etc.
I made-up my own definition after reading a variety of web sites including dictionaries and wikipedia: A jacket is an item of clothing worn on the upper area body. A jacket is more often than not waist or hip length and generally has sleeves. A jacket should not be confused with a coat (although it commonly is) - a coats tend to be longer. Some clothing items in this grouping could be mistaken for being either a coat or a jacket - an example is the ‘coat like’ three quarter length jacket worn by Neo in the Matrix
Uncomplicated no?
